This is the shocking sight on the A30 earlier today after a car became a giant fireball. 

Emergency services were called to a vehicle fire on the A30 at  lunchtime today (Friday).

Police and fire services were called to the A30 at Temple at around 1.30pm today after reports came in of a car and a caravan on fire.

The incident affected traffic on the A30 eastbound from A38 Launceston Road (Callywith) to Codda (Bolventor / Jamaica Inn).

At the time, authorities had to close one lane on the road but it is now reported that police have reopened westbound with a lane closed for recovery

Heavy traffic has been reported in the area.

A spokesperson for for Cornwall Fire and Rescue service said: "One appliance from Bodmin and one from Launceston were in attendance at this incident.

"The incident involved one car towing a caravan which also became involved in the fire and was well alight when crews arrived on scene.

"Two hosereels and breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire.

"The A30 at Temple in both directions was closed for a time to deal with the fire. Police have now re-opened the road.

"There are no further details for this incident."

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police and fire were called at 1.30pm today [2 July] following reports of a vehicle fire on the A30, just after Temple.

"A car and towed caravan were on fire on the eastbound carriageway.

"No injuries reported.

"The road was closed in both directions but the westbound carriageway opened at 2pm.

"Eastbound remains closed and long tailbacks are reported. Officers are working with Highways to reopen one lane as soon as possible. 

"Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.

"Both vehicles have been badly damaged by the fire."
