The Trevarno Estate near Helston is to close for the final time at the end of next week.
The estate and gardens, which is a popular attraction for locals as well as holidaymakers, has been fighting to remain open since September last year.
They were put up for sale in 2010 but after failing to sell the proposed closure was announced.
Set to result in the loss of a tourist attraction, together with 50 jobs, the news was greeted with dismay by local people and a petition was set up.
To date 770 people have signed, in a bid to ‘Save Trevarno Estate and Gardens.’ The estate was given a stay of execution on a number of occasions, remaining open on a month-by-month basis.
However, this week Trevarno’s website announced the end, saying: “We will be open during the Easter period...but with regret we will be closed to the public from the 22nd April. We hope to see you for one last time, a big thanks to all our loyal customers over the years.”
Trevarno is also promoting a 50 per cent discount on most of the items in its shop – except for its skincare range – due to the closure.
