Beverly Smith is an award winning musician who travels the world playing the music of the southern Appalachians – and next week Penzance Folk Club is putting on a special session to give local people a unique chance to hear her work.
Beverly is an avid preserver, performer and teacher of American fiddle music and early country singing.
Featuring banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin and song, her music ranges from energetic dance tunes to mournful, haunting ballads. She is also a tune-smith and songwriter and is known for her ability to compose new pieces that sound as old as the hills where she makes her home.
Over in the US, Beverly is happy to call Marshall, North Carolina, her home and is involved with the Georgia "Pick and Bow" programme teaching traditional mountain music to school children, co-directs the Roots of American Music Week in Mars Hill N.C., and has taught and performed all across the US as well as Europe, Canada, India and the Caribbean.
A great evening is in store for all fans of Americana, folk and country at 8pm at the Bath Inn, Cornwall Terrace, TR18 4HL, on Wednesday, November 6.
Tickets are £8 – £7 for members – online from CRBO 01726 879500, or on the door.
