To be honest it’s not been a great week for Falmouth PR wise, with racism, homophobia and an innocent woman’s house broken into by two thugs searching for drug.
Shopkeeper Haidi Ocampo was left distraught after racist abuse from a customer who claimed without any justification that she had reported him for stealing. This is by no means the first time it has happened to her though
Back at Christmas time the Packet first reported racially motivate abuse at the store and just the other day a councillor says he was forced to dial 999 after observing despicable behaviour against Haidi.
On top of this we have homophobic graffiti in the children’s play area and what appears to be a drug dispute spilling over into innocent people’s lives.

Police urge people to report hate crime after spate of racist abuse
In response to the original complaints about racist abuse and other anti-social behaviour local police came to the town council and told councillors that extra resources were being allocated to tackle the situation.
Later on the area commander issued a similar statement. But here we are five months down the line and nothing seems to have changed.
Indeed when Haidi dialled 101 she was told because she wasn’t physically being threatened they would not be sending an officer to see her.
This is simply not good enough, I know the police are under-resourced but non-action is damaging people’s perception of what they are actually for. We need action not words.
