The UK's 'longest tunnel of indoor lights has opened for the festive season at a museum in Cornwall.
The Tunnel of Lights experience at Charlestown’s Shipwreck Treasure Museum has opened for the festive season, with an all-new Christmas theme and thousands of twinkling lights.
This year’s edition of the popular event will again centre around the UK’s longest indoor tunnels of Christmas lights.
This time the visual spectacle extends to more than 220 metres and features a whopping five and a half miles of sparkling festive lights.
The new immersive experience sees visitors descend into the historic tunnels beneath the museum through a 'magical' wardrobe and into the frozen wonderland of Narnia, before rediscovering the museum which boasts every Christmas setting imaginable, from Santa’s very own workshop and a room of giant baubles to an entire world of glittering Christmas presents.
Visitors can also explore the museum’s replica shipwreck that overlooks Charlestown harbour as snow falls around them and take a pit stop in a mini–German Christmas Market which is serving hot and cold festive drinks, gingerbread biscuits, pretzels, and sweets.
There are hands-on festive crafts for families to get stuck into before, finally, following in Santa’s footsteps through the glittering North Pole to post that all-important Christmas letter and walking amongst thousands of twinkling lights.
A Giant Yule Tide Snow Globe is already proving a popular addition to the event.
It offers room inside for the whole family complete with fluttering snow and is the perfect place to capture a unique festive photo.
Visitor engagement manager Lynné Raubenheimer said: "We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to our brand-new immersive Christmas experience.
"This is our biggest and best Tunnel of Lights yet with so much to see and do, it really is a feast for the senses.
"It’s been another difficult year for all sorts of reasons, this is a wonderful opportunity to get firmly into the Christmas mood, have some fun, unwind and make some great memories at this magical time of year.
"Sessions are already selling out so we’re expecting a bumper season."
Tunnel of Lights: This is Christmas! runs daily until Sunday, January 8, 2023, but will be closed on Christmas Day.
Organisers have said tickets must be booked in advance to avoid disappointment on the museum's website.
