Soulful brother sister duo Angus & Julia Stone bring their torchsong, acoustic, folk rock to the south west next month as part of their UK tour.

The Australian born singer/songwriters have been compared to the likes of Portishead, Damien Rice and Paul Simon will be playing four very special shows in the region as an introduction to their music.

The fact that neither of them appear to have been shortchanged in the looks department also comes as a bonus.

Performing tracks from their debut EP "Chocolates & Cigarettes", Angus and Julia take a lifetime of shared experiences and create music that resonates with emotion and honesty. A pure sound that says a lot without trying.

Their decision to collaborate was taken just four months ago. Prior to that both had performed as solo artists, principally at open mic nights, but with each using the other as a backing partner. Ultimately they came up with the same idea, "why don't we play together? It kind of made a lot of sense".

The majority of the songs on Chocolate and Cigarettes were recorded at their home where they played and recorded everything live. In terms of composing the material, they write on their own, then work together on structure and harmonies. It's clearly a process that works.

This homespun ethic extends to their videos and artwork too. Mitch Connelly acts as the band's official photographer and his brother Oshy looks after their website and artwork. The band also directed and shot their own video for Paper Aeroplane and take care of their own merchandise, screen printing their own t-shirts with their own designs.

Currently touring in their homeland including a performance at The Big Day Out' alongside Muse, The Killers, Kasabian et al, these will be the first shows in the South West for the duo - local promoters SW1 Productions, who are always on the look out for new music to bring to the region are certain that they will be loved by music fans in the South West.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to see Angus & Julia performing with their band at one of these low key intimate shows. There are no tickets on sale as it is free entry, however, they are restricted to over 18's only!

The dates are: One Eyed Cat, Truro, Feb 28; Taphouse, St Agnes, Mar 1; Lifeboat Inn, St Ives,Mar 2;Student Union, Plymouth,Mar 3.
