One of soul's great singers, Alexander O'Neal, comes to Hall for Cornwall next month.

Alexander's popularity and support in the UK has been immeasurable throughout his 30-year career and still remains so today.

Based in the US he frequently commutes to the Britain, which he sees as his second home. All of his six albums have charted both in the UK and the USA and he has enjoyed numerous sell-out. This success has led him to record his first live album - Alexander O'Neal Live at the Hammersmith Apollo.

In 1978 he joined production outfit Flyte Tyme aka Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. After working together for two years they eventually parted company and Flyte Tyme went on to become the backing band for Prince.

The early '80s saw Alexander launch his solo career, making his first recordings in '85 with Jam and Lewis. His self titled debut solo album, was released by a local label called Tabu (distributed world wide by CBS) and a year later generated his first UK top 10 hit Saturday Love as well as A Broken Heart Could Mend and If You Were Here Tonight, both of which feature on his new live album.

The release of Alexander's second album Hearsay came in '87 and featured major club anthems Fake and Criticise - the album sold over 700,000 copies in the UK alone.

This period saw Alexander embark on several UK tours including eight sell-out nights at Wembley Arena. These performances were highly memorable due to his on stage antics with an over-sized bed and invited female members of the audience! It created scenes and reactions only seen since on Madonna's Blonde Ambition tour.

Alexander's 1991 album All True Man demonstrated an ever-increasing fan base and led to another gold album selling over 400,000 in Europe. His worldwide success was celebrated with a greatest hits collection in 1992, which was his second platinum album in the UK. The recent re-release of this album is on its way to platinum success as well!

Alexander was honoured by the Capital Gold network appearing as the first black artiste to perform a Legends Live gig at the Café de Paris - it was a tremendously intimate gig with a classic performance to an exclusive audience of true fans. BBC1's Just the Two of Us has been Alexander's most recent project where he coached News at Ten presenter Fiona Bruce, followed closely by the battle with ice queen Ann Robinson on The Weakest Link.

Alexander will perform his classic hits from 8pm on Friday, March 16. Tickets cost £21.50 and £19.50 from the Box Office on 01872 262466. There is a 75p Theatre Fund payment on each ticket sold.
