THE Poly presents an exceptional one man show this week, the must see opera Madam Butterfly.
It’s the mid nineteen thirties in Georgia USA. Tomisaburo, the son of Madam Butterfly has |journeyed from Japan in the hope of meeting his father for the first time. In his suitcase are two things his mother’s servant Suzuki gave him on her deathbed: his mother’s wedding fan and the dagger on which his grandfather sacrificed himself.
However Pinkerton is now Governor of Georgia and campaigning for election to the American senate, the sudden arrival of his mixed race illegitimate sets an unstoppable chain of events. Will Pinkerton reject or embrace his only child?
Performer of the one-man show, Ignacio Jarquin was born in Mexico City and studied music in Vienna and Paris.
He has been musical director and conductor of many choirs and orchestras, including the Paris Symphonic Orchestra, the Spanish National Symphony Orchestra and the Cairo Opera Orchestra and Choir.
After moving to the UK in 2001, Ignacio became the music director of the Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus, highlights include performances at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, appearances at BBC 2’s Last Choir Standing and a Christmas gala at the Barbican Centre with Sandie Shaw.
His one-man shows, Caruso and The Quake, and Caruso and The Monkey House Trial won him four star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The show takes place on Friday at 8pm, tickets are £12 and £10. There is currently a special buy one get one free off when booked over the phone or in person.
