IN July 2006 myself and my partner moved from Cornwall to Herts in search of an affordable life!
Sadly over the years Cornwall's employment opportunities have dwindled and almost completely died out. The promise of affordable housing is unrealistic and even though both my mothers and fathers family heritage is firmly rooted in Cornwall I have had to leave to make a living and to find a home.
Rental prices have been forced through the roof and jobs have been snapped up and believe it or not it is cheaper to live in outer London than Cornwall!
After returning home at Christmas to see the new building work at the University based at Tremough, I can't help but wonder why that site wasn't developed years ago to resolve the housing crisis that everyone seems to be ignoring (I have nothing against a university but somehow the idea of educating over housing in an area where job availability is minimal seems foolish!) Eventually Cornwall will lose out as all of the locals searching for housing will have to go elsewhere to make a life for themselves!
