WE are now being told by all of the three major parties that a green tax is a must to preserve the planet, while we ship our rubbish - excluding our politicians - to decimate other parts of the globe.

Another stealth tax will do very little to save the planet. If we are to accept that paying tax will stop the globe from destruction, it will clearly mean the poor will pay the most. This brings me to suggest a scheme that was used in the last war to protect the people from dire consequences, which we are facing today in saving the planet.

Would it not be worth considering ration books, thus allowing the lower paid to have equal rights to the rich with regards to travel in cars or planes, and other forms of energy?
