AS a former county councillor, having served on the fire and public protection committee, I have had reservations as to whether to comment or not regarding the closing of the fire stations at Camborne and Falmouth. I can see all points of view here but, in all honesty, if these stations remain open 24/7 I cannot see the need for a full "watch" at night time - providing there would be enough retained firemen living close at hand, whereby they could respond in minutes. After all, these personnel are mostly on "stand-by" for a great percentage of the time - which costs a lot of money - and, I daresay, due to their shift patterns, they can pursue other occupations at present. This is just an opinion but, yes we do need their services in some shape or form.
