ON my usual shopping day, Tuesday January 9, I had occasion to walk through the town towards the old parish Church.
On the opposite side by the Chinese restaurant, a man was selling daffodils. Nothing untoward about that you might say! Ah! But no, you would be wrong. He was shouting, and I quote: "Polish daffodils - three bunches for a pound." Polish daffodils? I asked myself. Being an old Cornish woman I was incensed. What have we come to in my town?
I noticed Stokes were selling daffodils at £1.49 per bunch, so maybe the grower should wake up and smell the flowers, and, whilst he is at it, count his bunches, if anyone can get my drift?
On another subject, if I may, I read with interest Mr Erick Brooke's lengthy epistle in answer to the Skipper's very interesting comments weekly. Keep it up Skipper, old pal, the truth obviously hurts.
In my Cornish vernacular I would say to Mr Brooke, "in my opinion, me 'ansome, you and your ilk are overpaid and over-rated, and remember, the likes of Skipper pays your salary. So lose the chip, me dear, we ain't impressed."
