OF course it's "outrageous," as county councillor Paul Holmes put it, when referring to the council plan to spend £423,000 on its own newspaper.
Taxpayers' money should, and must, be used solely for necessities/services and, I don't see - as a former councillor - that a newspaper represents one of these necessities. If it goes ahead and gets circulated I am of the firm opinion it will come through the letterbox at the front door and immediately go out through the back in a bin.
People are so fed up with unwanted material coming though the letterbox and, especially another with jargon most won't understand. Shelve the idea without any further ado, I say.
