I FEEL that the time has come for someone to put Falmouth's case before the public, and I am taking this opportunity to do so.
Firstly the Moor. Has anyone seen the state of the replacement slabs that have been put down? They are a disgrace, and whoever has passed them should be sacked! Then there is our main street. The cobbled runways are a disgrace and I should imagine that the same inspector has passed these as well.
The next thing is the tunnel beach entrance on Cliff Road, which has been wrecked for nearly a year. I heard that they can't get the bricks for it. Try the London Brick Company.
Now for the block of flats going up at the back of the Docks. Whoever gave permission for these should, in my opinion, be prosecuted for negligence, as the parking situation has been completely ignored.
Then there is our race track, Castle Drive and Cliff Road, which must be considered one of the most attractive drives or walks in Cornwall. All it needs is speed bumps. I should like to point out when Truro had the same problem in Malpas Road, that was solved by speed bumps quickly enough, but we must realise that the laws for Truro are definitely not the same for Falmouth.
Our local theatre wanted a light box to advertise itself but was knocked back. Why, when the hotels are allowed them, but not a Falmouth-run association?
The reason I write this tirade is that a short while ago, working as a volunteer at the National Maritime Museum, a gentleman came and asked if I was local and explained that he was a retired judge from Britain in Bloom and this was his first visit back for some time. In his words half of Falmouth looked like a blitz victim.
We notice that the railings along the front have been partly done but the section where there was a nasty accident last year still hasn't been touched.
I will close and once again point out the vast difference between the care that Truro gets - look at Boscawen Park - and then compare Queen Mary Gardens, the general state of Falmouth's streets and Truro's streets. Why?
