If I wasn't such a passionate Cornishman trying to help our county, and in particular Falmouth, I wouldn't write these letters to the Packet.

David Saunby with his team are so right to oppose the sale of the Recreation Ground for use as a building plot for houses. Whether you are visiting Falmouth as a visitor or just living here in the town, the "Rec" is just one of the important centre points of our town and is appreciated by many. It should be enhanced as a recreation area for the people of Falmouth. When travelling through our town you inevitably have to pass that site. As reported by me previously it would be sacrilege to put houses on that site. It would be good, however, if Carrick would agree to invest in Falmouth and redesign that corner of the site to make for a better roundabout in that position of the town - more aesthetically pleasing for the town and for those living here.

Years ago I went down a similar route and argued with Steve Watson (head of planning, Carrick district council) the need to enhance the main roundabouts to our town, as they are the first thing you see when you approach the entrance to Falmouth. In consultation we were able to get funding together to put that magnificent roundabout at the base of the by-pass at Ponsharden. It then took years before the Leo's roundabout was enhanced, which I believe Leo's sponsored. Only recently has the top roundabout been done, all to help, I would like to think, in making Falmouth look better for all and to enhance the feel good factor of the town we live in. Pride in our town.

We have to fight in this day and age to keep open spaces in our town centres otherwise over- development will occur, at which point there is no turning back to recover.

Working around the UK and internationally I see over-development of town/city centres all the time. Please don't allow it to happen here.
