IN reply to the letter from David Ekinsmith, chair of Camborne-Redruth Liberal Democrats, Mr Ekinsmith states the Lib-Dems have the right policies but like in their leaflets, such claims seem to consist of hot air.

On the leaflets they are putting out in Camborne and no doubt elsewhere, they claim they will make 40% affordable housing. I have sat on planning for seven years and never have I seen any Lib-Dems propose a policy of 40% affordable housing.

They claim to oppose the removal of 24-hour cover at Camborne fire station, yet the Lib-Dem controlled county council, including Camborne Lib-Dem councillors, voted on a budget which practically guarantees cuts will be made in the fire service. Or is this yet another example, as with the incinerator, of Lib-Dem councillors saying one thing while the MP does the exact opposite?

One policy they won't be talking much about is the unitary authority, for not only are they doubling their allowances, but, I understand from a recent meeting that each unitary authority councillor will now be provided with their own secretary and office - nice work when you are cutting vital services. I suppose they'll have to enlarge the doors at County Hall to get their heads through!

Don't think you are going to get a say in this, they aren't going have a referendum, they are only going to consult "key stakeholders" whatever that may mean. Some democrats!

It also strikes me as a bit hypocritical that they are standing for the same district councils they are planning to abolish, councils which have a better record of financial control than the Lib-Dem controlled county council. All aboard the gravy train boys.
