I WONDER how many readers, like me, find it strange now that the local council elections are imminent, how so many people (some unheard of) come out of the woodwork to ask for your kiss against their name. They're all going to do this, that and the third thing and, when the elections are over, they will - apart from collecting their expenses - go back into the woodwork.
Being local elections, I also wonder how many are local people and know the area like the backs of their hands. I have a funny feeling that some have come down here from England - probably retired - and think to themselves, being a councillor will give me some pocket money.

**********************
I have lived in the area for three years and, for the first time ever, my local councillor called at my house and introduced himself to me. I wonder what prompted this neighbourly act? I wonder if I will see or hear from him again in the next three years if he is re-elected in next week's election?
