EACH Thursday at a local pub in Fore Street a meal for senior citizens at the time of writing costs £4 all in. I can't get things right all of the time, which I regret, but many people have over the years been satisfied with my letters.
I must, with our Editor's permission, take issue with a name and address supplied correspondent who wrote: "The price of a single meal at the Age Concern Centre now costs £18." Who the hell is running a place like that for goodness sake? Our dear friend and former Redruth mayor, Sue Fowler, and her daughter, Jo, work really hard at our little 55-plus Club in Green Lane, which was a former photo shop. We had to leave our centre, which was taken over for rehab.
We are provided with substantial meals without any help from Age Concern. All we are charged is £3 per dinner. Of course, if a sweet and tea are required it is £4.20. I feel we are more than satisfied with what we have. Thanks to Sue the place is clean and tidy always. Of course, we can do with donations to help running costs.
Mr George Williams, Fords Row, Redruth
