MAY I, through the letters page of the Packet, thank the motorcyclists who took part in the 20th Anniversary Martin Jennings Memorial Motorcycle Run which attracted a new record entry of well over 1,000 bikes.

I would also like to thank the First and Last MCC and friends for their sterling work in their marshalling duties, the Devon and Cornwall Police Motorcycle Division and the Cornwall Motorcycle Paramedics who accompanied us, keeping a watchful eye on things and assisting at junctions, etc., in keeping the run moving, so as not to cause traffic congestion. The run attracted thousands of onlookers en route as Cornwall's biggest charity motorcycle run snaked its way around the county. Not forgetting Fonzie and The Ercus 4 for providing the entertainment at the start and finish, and also Westfields Transport and all others who may have contributed to the event.

Special thanks must go to Arthur Williams of the Falmouth Rugby Club, who worked like a Trojan, in basically arranging everthing with the burger vans, etc., and manning the bar in the rugby club single handed, until he was helped out by a biker who had bar experience, and then having to clear up the litter after the ground had emptied. Thanks, Arthur, you are a star, and you should be recognised for your unselfish efforts.

Here is a classic example why the recreation ground must be saved, not just for this event, but others who may wish to use this type of facility. Where else in Falmouth could cater for well over 1,000 bikes, and possibly 1,500 people, and all contained in one area? Events Square is certainly not big enough. You can't get a quart into a pint pot!

An incredible £3,902.80p was collected at the start from the bikers alone, a further £180 was collected at Beacon, and with the final collections at the Falmouth Recreation Ground, the grand total was an amazing £4,196.31 plus 25 American cents, and has been donated to the Children's Hospice South West to build a new children's hospice in Cornwall.

With over nine cameras en route and on bikes a professionally edited DVD will be put together, to mark this special year, and sold to the public to boost the children's hospice even further. Watch this space.

I would also like to point out that the picture in the top left hand corner in last weeks editorial, was not the bikers preparing to start from Garras Wharf, but Martin Jennings preparing to race in the 1986 Isle of Man Manx Grand Prix, the year previous to his untimely death.
