FURTHER to my letter (July 16, 2008) praising those responsible for the dualling of the branch line and my suggestion that a new “halt” should be built at Falmouth School/Cricket Club (Ashfield Estate), I would like to suggest that the town has a great opportunity to work together with the university, hotels and sports clubs to turn Falmouth into a regional sports centre!
The following should be noted how the rail line could promote this: Falmouth Docks (Ships and Castles, new marina).
Falmouth Town (Maritime Museum conference facilities).
Penmere (rugby club, Falmouth Sports Club).
New halt (Falmouth Town Football Club, cricket club, Falmouth Yacht Marina.
Penryn (university conference and accommodation facilities).
As well as serving the community for county matches, summer and Easter sports schools could be established as well as weekly and weekend events for the town’s children and students. All that is needed is the driving of those in position in the town to bring it about!
