I READ the letter submitted by Peter Ward in the Packet, January 14, regarding the Porthleven lights and Kerrier district council’s proposals under a so-called “coherent lighting strategy” to abolish some, if not all, of the coloured light strings from the port.

The Porthleven lights are what attract tourists to the port over the Christmas period and residents from surrounding villages.

I visit Porthleven, Gunwalloe and Helston on a regular basis and take family and friends there over the Christmas period with the main intention of seeing the light displays at night.

I think it is absurd to suggest that to remove some of the lights would remove some of the cluttered appearance of the port. What cluttered appearance? It is a port not a council office. I suggest Kerrier council devise a “let’s be transparent about our real objectives strategy”.

If so-called “coherent lighting strategies” are what Kerrier district council come up with, then I look forward to a unitary authority.
