The letters concerning the Monterey Pine are of great interest to the Save the Rec Action Group since it concerns not only the fate of the tree but also the agreement between the county council, the district council and the trustees of the Rugby Club.

We hold documentation showing that the county council has paid the district council the derisory sum of £2,500 for the freehold of the improvement strip and also £2,500 to the trustees of the rugby club for the reduction in their facilities.

We understand that these figures were not arrived at by an external independent valuer but by officers of the councils and a representative of the Falmouth Rugby Club.

Having studied the plans for the road widening at Dracaena Avenue/ Killigrew Street roundabout it clearly shows the 120-year-old Monterey Pine would be left in place.

It would now appear to the outside observer the future of the tree appears to be in some doubt. And why is the replacement wall so low compared to the original?

We urge interested parties to contact county highways and town and district councillors if you have concerns regarding the Monterey Pine and/or the height of the wall.
