What a delightful bit of news about HMS Carrick - a square rigger based in Falmouth again. Now wouldn't that be a sight to see! Even as young as I am I can remember the grand old lady, Cutty Sark. Her memory has stayed with me all these years.
What an attraction this would be for Falmouth, the tourists it would draw. Wow, everyone could get involved. I can just see it now - a flag day for Carrick, a money box in every pub, even a pasty tax throughout Cornwall, but please don't turn it into restaurant. The Cutty Sark left Falmouth in 1939 and that left a giant hole where she and the Foudroyant were moored off the British Legion. If a fund is opened for the saving of the Carrick I will gladly put down the first £100.
There we go Falmothians - a chance to do something for yourselves. Anyone else willing to put up a £100? How about the old grammarians, where are they now your help is needed?
