DAVID Spargo and the Falmouth Marine Band must be commended for their efforts in keeping the Falmouth Carnival alive after reports that a few in higher positions in the town would be happy to see this long-standing tradition slip into the history books.
With many organisations and individuals taking part, they pulled off what I would describe as most probably one of the best carnivals for many years, a refection of the times when I was a boy in the 1950-60s.
The superb walking carnival, full of colour and fun, certainly proved a big hit with the spectators and showed that huge articulated lorries are no longer necessary. Possibly for future years, vehicles may be allowed, but nothing bigger than a small pick-up truck.
Once again, three cheers for David Spargo and the Falmouth Marine Band for saving our carnival.
