PLANS to build an artist’s studio and create an area of raised decking at 4 Tehidy Terrace in Falmouth are being opposed by neighbours and town councillors.

Members of Falmouth’s planning committee voted unanimously to recommend the proposals for refusal after hearing from two local residents.

Jake Bryant said he had concerns over the proposed increase in ridge height and parking.

“The ridge height will look incongruous and will not fit into the street scene. It is so high compared to the other garages and the affect it’s going to have on our neighbours is quite substantial,” he said The woman living next to the site said the development would take light away from her bedroom window and also overlook her small, and currently private, courtyard.

Committee chairman, councillor Diana Merrett, said: “I am not happy with this one. They have a huge back garden and I do not see any reason to have an artist studio stuck there.”

The committee opposed the plans on the grounds of over-development, over-looking issues and the loss of a car parking space. “They could have put a studio further down the garden and still have a car port,” said councillor Merrett.

The final decision will be made by Cornwall Council.
