FALMOUTH Art Gallery has been inundated with donations of works of art from supporters of the town council owned facility.

Local resident Jane Beecroft has given two watercolours in memory of her mother, Esme.

The paintings by Falmouth artist Gwendoline J Wicker showthe Bosun’s Locker and Custom House Quay.

Six prints by important 20th century artists were presented by Laurence Harbottle through the Art Fund.

Ivor Perry has donated three works to the art collection which are a zinc plate engraving by Eric Gill; Portrait of Gordian Gill, a wood engraving by Gwen Raverat; The River Roding and White Flowers and Yellow Coffee Pot by Sophie Gurney.

Two engravings showing historic scenes of Falmouth: Pendennis Castle in Falmouth by Joseph Wilson Lowry and Laying the Foundation Stone of the New Docks at Falmouth, dated 1860 and by an unknown artist, have been donated by Martin Lister.

Jacqueline Jarvis donated her etching on Japanese tissue, Cyclisme Handisport – Tandems, which was exhibited in the gallery’s summer exhibition, Soaring Spirits, and is described as “a lively and energetic depiction of disabled cycling”.

A hand-written “letter of advice to a young artist” from Roger Hilton to John White was given by its recipient; John Howard donated one of his own etchings, Woods, Pennance Point and John and Valentine Tonkin gave an oil painting by Nancy Bailey entitled The Orange Towel, Polperro.
