MEMBERS of Falmouth Stroke Club were treated to tea and cakes when they visited the town’s art gallery on Friday to browse the current exhibitions and receive a talk from director, Louise Connell.

The group were joined by Councillor Maureen Davies, who is chairman of the town council’s art gallery and president of the Stroke Club. After Louise’s talk about the Hemy and Friends exhibition, there was a question and answer session.

Falmouth Stroke Club was formed ten years ago by two retired nurses and a stroke victim, Caroline Drake, Mary Bradley and David Davies, with the idea of giving those recovering from stroke a place to meet, talk and enjoy social activities including entertainment and outings.

Chairman, Graham Wilkes, said: “Although we are affiliated to the Stroke Association, we do not get any funding from them so we are completely self-sufficient, relying on the generosity of individuals and donations from other organisations such as the Lions Club, Woodlane Social Club and the fire brigade to name just a few.”

The club meets at St Mary’s Church Hall in Falmouth, two Fridays a month and welcomes new members.

This year members will enjoy talks and slide shows, a plant sale, harvest festival, a strawberry tea and visits from the Lemonaires and the Bliss Choir. Outings planned include trips to Trebah Gardens, Trelissick Gardens and Heartlands.

Anyone wanting to learn more about Falmouth Stroke Club can call Mr Wilkes on 01326 312392.

Falmouth Art Gallery is open Monday to Saturday, from 10am until 5pm, and admission is free. The Hemy and Friends exhibition runs until February 2.
