The Patronal Festival was celebrated at the 8.30am said communion and 10.30am sung eucharist.
The Rev Stephen Tudgey conducted the services with Jan Winslade as minister and Sarah Corbett, server. John Pyatt and Nigel Rimmer read the lessons and Julie Foy led intercessions. The service opened with the choir introit “Locust Iste” by Bruckner; Isabelle Taylor conducted the choir. Angus Webster accompanied the music setting Mass of St Thomas and conducted the communion anthem “Cantique de Jean Racine” by Faure. Stanford`s setting of psalm 150 was sung as well as the “Falmouth” hymn. Angus concluded the service with the first movement of “Trio Sonata No 1” by J S Bach.
Following the service there were toasts in the hall to King Charles the First, our Queen and the Duke of Cornwall. Sixty-five members of the church then met at the Falmouth Hotel for a splendid three course patronal lunch organised by Jane Williams.
Sung evensong took place at 6pm with the priest-in-charge officiating. Valerie Pitts and Patrick Clarke read the lessons. The choir sang the anthem “Turn thy face from my sins” by Attwood. Mike White was soloist. Michael Hoeg played the final voluntary “Fugue in D “by Max Reger.
Events this week: Tuesday, coffee shop reopens, join us at any time for coffee and cake, scones or tea cakes and a lunchtime bowl of soup. Thursday, 9.30am, babies and toddlers; 10.30am, said communion; 11.15am, parish prayer group. Sunday, 8.30am, said communion; 10.30am, sung eucharist both conducted by Father Ian Froom; 6pm, patronal festival choral evensong - Canticles by T J Field and the anthem “By Gracious Powers”, Richard Lloyd. Richard and Dorothy Shapland are sponsoring the floodlighting for two weeks from January 27 to February 9 in memory of two much loved godchildren, Christopher Fairhurst and Bethany Wagstaff and a dearly loved sister June Fairhurst.
