The chairman welcomed David Chapman who gave a nature presentation entitled Spring 2010 to February 2011.

It was a fascinating mix of wildlife and landscape photographs all at David's high standard. We saw images from his trips to the Isles of Scilly, Texel (an island off the north coast of Holland), Norway and from across Cornwall. There were beautiful photographs of a wide selection of birds in various situations, eg in flight, collecting nesting material, sheltering their young and feeding. He showed an amazing image of a song thrush caught in the motion of breaking open a snail, which had been taken with a slower shutter speed than would normally be used for such a shot. David encouraged us to experiment, saying there are no right or wrongs; if it works, it works.

We saw some very topical pictures of snow across Cornwall, at Godrevy, Perranporth and the Great Flat Lode.

Throughout the evening David explained how he captured the images and shared his knowledge, giving tips for photographing wildlife. We enjoyed a very interesting and educational evening.

Next meetings: Wednesday, when we have a practical evening, which will include theory in the form of tutorials and practical in the form of table top still lifes, giving us all the opportunity to learn from the experts amongst our members. Wednesday, February 6, when we will show the images that we created on our practical evening on January 30.

Meetings take place each Wednesday at 7.30pm at The Space, Penryn RFC, Kernick Road, Penryn.
