A competition to design a poster to advertise this year’s Falmouth Spring Flower Show attracted hundreds of entries from the town’s five primary schools with ten-year-old Morgan’s chosen as the winner.

The Falmouth Primary School pupil’s colourful poster will now be seen pinned to notice-boards across the town in the run-up to the show in March. Last week, Morgan was presented with a framed copy of her poster plus £25 for her school by show chairman, Ron Scamp.

Also at the presentation were St Mary’s School pupils Ginger, aged five, and Mia, aged six, who came second and third respectively. They both received framed copies of their posters for their school plus a total of £25 in prize money, also for the school.

Members of the flower show committee had sifted through the hundreds of entries to whittle them down to the final three. It had been decided to involve school children after the committee agreed to make a change from tradition.

“In the past the posters have always been very colourful and served their purpose, but we wanted something plain, simple and to the point that can easily be seen from the roadside or in a display cabinet,” said Mr Scamp.

The committee wrote to all the town’s schools and the entries flooded in from children aged four to 11. The top three entries will be posted around the Princess Pavilion during the two day show.

The Falmouth Spring Flower Show will be held at the pavilion and Gyllyngdune Gardens on March 23 and 24. The closing date for entries is March 15. For more information visit www.falmouthshow.co.uk.
