A large spaceship is about to touch down on the north Cornish coast, but the 60-foot UFO, complete with flashing lights and smoke is actually a mobile venue rather than a visitation from outer space.
Sandsifter, at Gwithian near Hayle, has teamed up with The Aurora Project - the creators of the UFO - to present a month of entertainments in the spaceship that will be out of this world.
John Rees, from The Aurora Project, which designed and built the UFO, said: “The spaceship is a new concept in mobile venues. Taking the shape of a stunning UFO, the structure has a total capacity of 250 people and includes an 8 metre bar, DJ booth and sunken dance floor.
Entertainments booked for the UFO include a charity comedy night with Kernow King, a run of film nights screening sci-fi cult films and a series of music events.
The music events include house DJs, an evening of Northern soul and a reggae and dub night.
Peter Randles, of Sandsifter, said: “We are delighted to be able to host the UFO at Sandsifter. It will be such a spectacle and the line up of entertainments is very exciting.”
The events start on Saturday, March 2, with DJs KBS, Martin C, Ollie Stratton, Sam F, Silkworm, Drop DJs and Snatch the Wax, followed by a showing of the classic sci-film epic 2001: A Space Odyssey on Thursday, March 7.
