More students than ever before are expecting to be heading off to university from Helston Community College this year.

Despite a decrease nationally, largely due to an increase in tuition fees, applications are on the rise from Helston with students planning to study everything from dentistry to accounting.

More than 100 students have applied to continue into higher education, with the majority securing offers from all of their five choices.

Frazer Delves, the student vice-president at Helston, said he believed this success was due to “an emphasis on aspiration and the commitment” from students towards their studies. He plans to study history at Reading.

Emma Winder looks set to be heading to Oxford University to study history, and fellow student Ben Wilde has his sights on Cardiff where he wants to study dentistry. Lauren Snaith hopes to read English at Queen Mary, London, and Katie Pearce and Claire Poskitt also want to study English but have yet to decide on which university to attend.

Abi Hocking plans to study history at Plymouth, Curtis Lane aims to read accounting and finance at Plymouth and Neythen Treloar intends to study biology at the Imperial College.”
