The chilly May weather that has seen gales, snow and hailstorms hit Cornwall and Devon this week seems set to continue, with the Met Office issuing a 'Yellow Alert' due to downpours forecast for today and Friday.
Issued this morning and valid until Friday night, it states that "slow-moving, heavy showers are expected to affect parts of southwest England on Friday, especially through the afternoon and early evening".
The Met Office chief forecaster's assessment said: "The public should be aware of the potential for localised travel disruption. Heavy showers are likely to develop on Friday across Devon and Cornwall. The wind setup may be favourable for these to develop into slow-moving bands of downpours that could affect some locations for a number of hours. This could lead to localised flooding and standing water on roads, whilst some locations are likely to miss the showers completely."
