Commodores past and present came together in Mylor harbour this weekend to celebrate the yacht club’s 50th anniversary.
As many as 200 members of Mylor Yacht Club were joined by nine former commodores who were asked in turn to pick out a particular memory from the club’s past, at the event on Saturday evening James Penrose, son of the first commodore Beacus Penrose, proposed a toast to all present while another early club president, Alfie Treneer, reflected on the original clubhouse on the quay and his support for the move to the new building.
“Mylor has always been a very forward looking club but this was also an occasion to remember the past,” said John Cruise, the current commodore.
“This club is successful because the members love working together to put on a myriad of events, whether it is parties like this, racing, cruising or the winter talks.
“Today we are looking back at our evolution over 50 years and I am confident we will continue to adapt to the challenges of the future.”
The evening was rounded off with a buffet supper and music.
