Crew members left their navy ship to help raise money for a pirate ship after hearing of the fundraising campaign being run at St Francis School in Falmouth.
HMS Severn has been undergoing work in drydock at Falmouth Docks and crew members were keen to give their support to a local good cause while they were in port.
St Francis School secretary, Jackie Lynch’s husband is a lieutenant commander on board so she managed to persuade them to support the school’s Pirate Ship for a Princess campaign.
Teacher Nicky Sutton and six of the crew were offered a bag packing spot at Asda in Penryn and raised £265.44 for the campaign, which is raising money for a memorial to former pupil, Chloe Edwards who died of a rare form of cancer.
