A car left the road and smashed into a traffic light control box in Penzance yesterday.
Five firefighters were called to the accident, on Eastern Green, at 3.46pm.
The A30 was closed in both directions as "the control box was smoking and still live," Jenna Gendall from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said.
Paramedics checked over the driver, who was unharmed, while engineers from Western Power isolated the transformer and made the scene safe.
