For our April meeting members enjoyed a talk from the Cinnamon Trust, but unfortunately their speaker was unable to attend and they contacted president Angela, who gave a resume of their work.
The Cinnamon Trust was founded for elderly people and their pets and their services are offered to terminally ill pet owners and anyone of any age can make arrangements for pets that may outlive them to come into the Trust’s care. Members found it an interesting and worthwhile charity.
At our May meeting president Angela welcomed members, president Jim Henderson of the Rotary club of Penryn and fellow Rotarians who joined us for a presentation by Nicola Condon on the Project Primrose. She gave a very detailed report of the orphanage in Duncan Village in Ubunti in the Eastern Cape of Africa and the Duncan Village Orphanage is in an area of rusting corrugated iron shacks of scrap material. Some 600 people share one toilet due to the lack of infrastructure and currently there are 89 children, but only 35 can stay on site. They need help to expand the house to accommodate the 89 children. One hundred and fifty children between 14 months and 16 years are fed seven days a week and a soup kitchen is their only source of food; they are in desperate need of help, care and support. Every penny that is collected and given is passed on to the project.
The Project Primrose was created to help children at risk and meet the needs physically and emotionally of the children, and any friends can ‘Buddy’ a child ie send to them for birthdays and Christmas.
President Angela thanked Nicola for her presentation, with slides, and was given a cheque towards this very worthwhile work.
