A former Chief Superintendant of Devon and Cornwall police has died after being found collapsed in the road near Penzance.
John Allen, aged 77, was found in the Long Lane area of Ludgvan at 6.35am.
Despite attempts from police officers and ambulance crews to resuscitate him, Mr Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death is not being treated as suspicious and his friends and relatives have been made aware.
