Sunday, May 12 was the celebration of Ascension Day, transferred from the traditional Thursday.
The scripture readings from the Book of Acts were from St Luke’s gospel and described Jesus’ ascension, as witnessed by His apostles. This was also World Communications Day and a special collection was taken up for this. Congratulations were due for Maja and Imogen Kubicki, welcomed into the church in Christian baptism. Prayers were asked for James Hesketh who died recently. In the evening there was a volley ball practice in the church grounds.
On Monday evening the prayer group met and the Bible study group met on Tuesday. The funeral of James Hesketh was held on Wednesday morning. After the Wednesday evening mass the DVD Freedom in Jesus was shown in the hall. This is part of a series of six talks, focussing especially on the work of the Holy Spirit for Pentecost.
On Friday morning the university mass was held in the chapel lecture theatre at Tremough. On Saturday morning the pro-life prayer vigil was held outside Treliske Hospital. In the afternoon the Apostleship of the Sea organised a tea with jam, cream and scones to raise funds for the work in the port of Falmouth. In the evening the Ignite youth group met in the hall to see the DVD Faith.
Sunday was Pentecost Sunday celebrating the gift of the Holy Spirit on the 15th day after the Resurrection of the Lord. The scripture readings from the Book of Acts described how the Spirit descended upon the apostle in tongues of fire and from St John’s gospel told how Jesus promised to send them another advocate after His ascension. There were special prayers and blessings for the day of Pentecost.
In the afternoon there was a united service at Gwennap Pit, where John Wesley preached.
