President for the day on Sunday was Dieter Friedrich who welcomed the speaker, John Eastbury and his wife from Weston-super-Mare.
In the afternoon John looked at the daily readings, especially the words of encouragement which God spoke to Joshua to be strong and courageous as the Israelites prepared to enter the Promised Land. We need that same courage to do God’s work and follow his way. Jesus showed courage, and love and gave total obedience to God and we should try and use the love He gave us to help one another. We should remember the price He paid and the life He led to ensure our salvation and strive to follow Him.
After sharing tea John asked the difficult question “Who or what is God?” John looked at the need for faith set out in Hebrews 11 and also at the speech the apostle Paul made in Athens as he explained who the ‘Unknown God’ was in Acts 17 where he gave a description of God and our dependence on him. Everyone needs to think about what they believe and take hope in the fact that God wants salvation for everyone. We only know the character of God from the wonders of nature we see about us and what we read of Him in the Bible.
