Huge crowds turned out for the Queen’s visit to West Cornwall last Friday, but one part of her trip that was not so well publicised was her exit from the county via Helston’s RNAS Culdrose.

While the flags and bunting may have been packed away after the Queen’s departure from St Michael’s Mount, the royal visitor, together with the Duke of Edinburgh, remained in Cornwall for a little while longer.

They travelled to the Helston naval base, where they were greeted by the commanding officer, Captain Mark Garratt, and the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Colonel Edward Bolitho, before boarding a Royal Flight aircraft. The aircraft flew the royal party to RAF Northolt in west London.
