Who can believe it is a whole year since Helston's Old Cattle Market first opened?
It feels like both the longest and quickest 12 months - quickest because it barely seems like yesterday that the building was under construction, let alone being officially opened by Helston's mayor and mayoress, yet the longest because so much has already happened there it is hard to remember a time when it did not exist.
But back to the present and those behind the building are throwing a community birthday party to celebrate its first anniversary, this Bank Holiday Monday.
Centre manager Sarah Vine said: “We wanted to make it a real family party, so everyone is welcome.
“We are looking forward to building on the success of our first year and providing even more great events and activities for the local community to enjoy over the next 12 months.”
The building was officially opened on May 29 last year by mayor Jonathan Radford-Gaby, who paid tribute to the volunteer members of South Kerrier Alliance community interest company that were behind its creation.
His wife, mayoress and SKA director Wendy Radford-Gaby, said: “It is wonderful to be able to celebrate the first birthday of such a unique community venue. It was a difficult path but perseverance and dedication by the entire SKA team paid off and it has been very rewarding to see the range of activities and uses the community has had for the building since opening.”
Held between 1pm and 4pm on Monday, the party will include Punch and Judy shows, face painting, balloon modelling, magic shows, fancy dress competition and even a 'paint the cow' area, harking back to the site's rural roots.
Moo-sical chairs anyone?
