Four members of Falmouth’s Pink Wig Events committee were invited to attend a thank-you reception hosted by the Breast Cancer Campaign and held at the House of Lords when the achievements of fundraisers from across the country were recognised.
Sally Hicks-Wood, founder of the Falmouth charity, was joined by Emma Kent, Kathryn Stivey and Sue Morant and all four were delighted to learn the Pink Wiggers had been nominated for two awards. The Pink Wig parade was up in the best event category and Sally in the best member category – sadly they lost out in both.
The team weren’t disheartened, though, especially after they were sought out by actress and comedian Morwenna Banks, who is originally from Flushing. She spent some time chatting with Sally, Emma, Sue and Kathryn about “home” and Pink Wig Events and said she’d like to take part in this August’s Pink Wig Parade if she’s free.
Sue said: “It was a real privilege to be invited by Breast Cancer Campaign to the House of Lords and to have all the hard work and effort that goes into organising these fundraising events acknowledged.
“We met some amazing people and heard the most inspirational stories from other fundraisers who attended the reception.
After hearing of the ground-breaking research that is being undertaken at Breast Cancer Campaign, it only serves to encourage us to continue with our fundraising, giving Pink Wig Events the confidence to group and become a household name in Cornwall.”
Tickets will go on sale soon for this year’s Ladies’ Pink Wig Parade/party night which is to take place on August 9. For more information visit www.pinkwigevents.org.uk.
