A street party to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation is taking place in Helston next week.
It follows the success of a similar event held last year for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, which saw Meneage Street filled with a long line of tables and chairs.
Last year may have marked 60 years on the throne for the present monarch, but it is 2013 that marks the 60th anniversary of her coronation.
To celebrate, Mark Upton and his team at the Epworth Hall are encouraging people to join them for another street party in Meneage Street. This will take place on the actual day of the coronation anniversary, Sunday, June 2.
The party is scheduled to begin at 3pm and people should take along a picnic with them to enjoy at the tables.
During the event, a king and queen will be chosen to take part in this year’s Helston Harvest Fair.
Judging for both these positions will take place at 4pm.
During the afternoon there will be a variety of street entertainment, including Morris dancing and a display of classic cars.
Free tickets for the party are available on a first come first served basis. Last year the event was over-subscribed, so people are advised to apply quickly by calling 01326 568936 or emailing coronation@epworthhall.com.
Mr Upton said: “We are doing another one because of the response from the community last year. It was wonderful. It’s bringing the community into the town centre again.”
