The National Maritime Museum Cornwall is in with a chance of winning the prestigious Telegraph Family Friendly Museum Award.
The Family Friendly Museum Award is the biggest museum award in Britain and the only one judged by families. The award, run with the charity Kids in Museums, aims to celebrate those museums that enthrall children of all ages.
For the past month families, children, curators, volunteers and museum professionals from all over the country have been nominating the museums they think should win. Over 140 sites were nominated and the team at Kids in Museums have now whittled that down to just 20. The Maritime Museum in Falmouth is the only museum in Cornwall to have been long listed for the award.
Jonathan Griffin, director of the Maritime Museum, says: “Everyone at the museum is delighted and incredibly proud to have made it to the final 20.
"Making the Museum accessible, interesting and lively for children and families has been our priority from the moment the place opened.
The shortlist will be announced at the beginning of July and the winner of the Family Friendly Museum Award 2013 will be named at a ceremony to be held on 13 September.
