Three affordable housing schemes in Cornwall, including one in Camborne have been included in a list of the top 50 developments completed in 2012.

The list assembled by specialist publication Inside Housing was compiled after a panel of judges scrutinised entries to find affordable and social housing projects that really stand out.

The three developments are • Coastline Housing’s development at Trevithick View, Camborne of 56 affordable homes made up of 12 shared ownership and 44 affordable rented homes with Cornwall Council providing funding of £480,000.

• Devon and Cornwall Housing’s development at Beacon Heights in Bodmin with 93 homes built on a site previously owned by Cornwall Council and for which the Council provided £1.6 million.

• Ocean Housing’s purpose build 31 self contained apartments for older people at Prince Charles House, St Austell made possible with £3.5 million grant funding from Cornwall Council’s eco-communities fund.

Geoff Brown, Cornwall Council’s portfolio holder for homes and communities, said: “It is great to see that these projects have been recognised for their quality and innovation. The council is committed to meeting local housing need and works closely with a number of housing associations to deliver affordable homes for local people.

“We support the delivery of new affordable housing through the planning process, and by providing funding towards the cost of new affordable housing.

“Given the desperate housing shortage here in Cornwall, the council has agreed ambitious plans to match pound for pound Government investment in new homes. To that end the council has recently signed contracts with five housing associations to deliver an additional 1,000 affordable homes in Cornwall over four years with investment totalling over £20 million. Few councils have made such a commitment.”
