The police were called to a playground brawl at a Penryn primary school last week.
Officers had to use pepper spray to break-up the fight, at Penryn Infant School on Thursday afternoon, because a man was allegedly hitting a pupil's mother.
The scuffle followed on from reports of a disturbance between two mums earlier in the day.
In a letter home to parents, headteacher of Penryn Junior School Robin Cowen said: "Many of you will be aware that there was an incident on Thursday where two parents brought a dispute from outside of school onto the infant school site.
"This should not have happened and caused real distress to those who witnessed it.
"The matter is now being dealt with by the police and those involved have been banned from the school site for the rest of the term."
One man was arrested and released on bail without charge, pending further enquiries.
