Youngsters from Mabe School brought their renewable energy studies to life last week when they visited a wind farm in their own back yard.
A group of 35 pupils from Mabe School got the chance to visit Roskrow Barton Wind Farm near Penryn to discover more about wind energy.
They had been studying renewable energy in class with a view to designing and building their own miniature turbine, and the visit gave the youngsters a chance to quiz the REG Windpower staff at the farm about how turbines are built and how they work.
Teacher Mark Robins said: “Renewable energy is an important part of our curriculum. We were excited to see a working wind farm and I was surprised at how quiet the turbines were.
“The children have grown up with the turbines turning on the horizon and it was a pleasure to visit the local landmark.”
Claudia Richard from REG Windpower said: “We were impressed with the knowledge of Mabe students and are glad they enjoyed visiting Roskrow Barton Wind Farm.
“Our wind farms are very popular with schools, universities, and community groups.
“We are always delighted to host visits from local groups.”
