A charity golf day proved such a hit that Helston’s Cober Valley Rotary Club has presented a cheque for £3,000 to the Cornwall branch of Dementia UK.

Each year the club holds a golf match for a different charity, this year taking place at the West Cornwall Golf Club, near St Ives, to help fund an Admiral nurse to support dementia sufferers.

Club treasurer Ian Munday said members were pleased with the amount raised, adding: “We did very well. Quite a number of local businesses helped us with sponsorship, which increased what money we raised.”

A total of 19 teams, made up of various Rotary club members as well as outside organisations and companies, took part in the golf match. The event was eventually won by Truro and Boscawen Rotary Club.

The event was sponsored by 20 companies.

Mr Munday said: “Thank you to all those people that supported us, particularly the golf match.”

The next golf day will now take place in April next year, with the charity it will support still to be decided.
