A woman who crashed her car into the Porthleven Boots store, embedding the vehicle into the building, had been drinking, a court has heard.
Louise Davies was in an ambulance receiving treatment when police officers arrived, and they found she was apparently under the influence of drink. Davies failed their preliminary screening test, later registering 83 milligrams, three points over the limit for alcohol in blood.
At Truro’s magistrates’ court Davies, aged 20, of Quayside Flats, Porthleven, pleaded guilty to drink driving on March 9. She had no previous convictions.
Elliott Moore, her solicitor, gave the magistrates a letter his client had written to them.
He said the damage to the building had been resolved through Davies’ insurance company so no formal claim was being made for compensation. She realised how lucky she had been during what was a horrendous night for her.
Working at the time at a restaurant in Porthleven she was also studying at Falmouth University. Davies was fined £110 and £70 costs and surcharge and banned from driving for 12 months.
